The infamous Piggyback Bandit was spotted at one of our team's games in Virginia

On December 7 our Midget U16 team played a game at the rinks in Ashburn where this man later committed the crime described below. We were contacted by the team manager of the Ashburn team we played and asked if we had any information. All of our kids are safe and only one adult had any contact with this man and that was only a casual exchange of a few words.

We feel that it is important that the membership be aware that unfortunately these creepy individuals do exist and that we should all be vigilant and helpful to our other members by keeping an eye on our players, their siblings and friends while we are at rinks, home and away.

FYI photos of this man can be found by searching his name.

LCSO Charges ‘Piggyback Bandit’ for Assault & Battery of Teenager

Loudoun County, VA- A Maryland man was charged with assault and battery after he unlawfully touched at least one player December 7th at a high school hockey game at the Ashburn Ice House.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office charged Sherwin Shayegan, 31, after investigating the incident where he grabbed the arm of a juvenile victim and attempted to have him go into a locker room at the hockey rink in Ashburn, VA. The investigation continues to determine if other teenagers were approached by Shayegan.

Shayegan was taken into custody December 10th at a home in Gaithersburg, MD by detectives with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and members of the City of Gaithersburg Police Department.  He remains held in Maryland and is awaiting extradition to Virginia.

Shayegan, who is originally from Washington State, is known to have had similar contact with teenagers in incidents across the country. He has been dubbed the ‘Piggyback Bandit’ in national and local media reports.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is aware of a similar incident that occurred December 8th at a Loudoun County Public Schools high school game that was played outside of the county in Fauquier County, VA. That incident remains under investigation by the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is working with local schools and other law enforcement officials to make them aware of the incidents.

Anyone who was in contact with the subject and believes they may have been a victim of a crime is asked to call the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office at 703-777-1021. If the incident occurred in another area, you are asked to please call your local law enforcement agency.
