Joining several other CBHL clubs, BYHC has added a Tryout and Deposit Fee system to its tuition fee structure. Paid in advance of tryouts, the Deposit will be applied to your player's tuition. Please be aware that players will now have 48 hours to DECLINE a roster position as opposed to accept a position by registering. The Deposit will be refunded ONLY if a player is not offered a roster position on a TRAVEL TEAM in their age division. More details about how it will work and a thorough explanation of why so many clubs have adopted this fee structure can be viewed here.

Dear BYHC Members,

After thoughtful and thorough evaluation, the BYHC Board of Directors has decided to revise the club’s Travel Team tuition and fee structure to include a Tryout and Deposit fee. Over the past several years, we have discussed these potential changes on many occasions. We feel this step will be beneficial to our players, and the process by which teams are determined will be streamlined and simplified. Our process for the actual on-ice evaluations will remain the same. The following details describe the fee structure and the concerns which guided our decision.

NEW 2017 Travel Team Tryout and Deposit Policy:

  • Players must be registered online by 7:00pm Friday, April 28. Parents will complete the FULL REGISTRATION which includes:
    • 2017-2018 USA Hockey number submission.
    • All waivers.
    • Jersey number request for the upcoming season.
    • $350 Tryout and Deposit Fee.
      • $100 non-refundable Tryout Fee.
      • $250 Deposit (will be applied to player’s 2017-2018 tuition).
      • 8U Mites Tryout and Deposit Fee will be $250.
      • Girl’s Team players are not subject to this policy.
    • Selection of “Pay in Full” or “Payment Plan.”
  • $350 Registration Fee must be paid online BEFORE TRYOUTS.
  • NO CHECKS will be accepted.
  • The $250 Deposit will be refunded ONLY if a player is not offered a roster position on a TRAVEL TEAM in their age division.
  • Players will have 48 hours to DECLINE an offered roster position once rosters are announced, otherwise that player’s payment plan will be in place.

Many of the smaller clubs in our area have been or are now charging a significant registration fee or combined tryout/registration fee. Making this move together with these other clubs will ultimately help grow and improve competition in the league. This approach has been employed with great success as a league-wide strategy in the DVHL to reduce movement between clubs and increase the level of competition instead of using old-fashioned zip code rules.

The BYHC Board and our Hockey Director, Boe Leslie, would like to attract and retain players who have a vested interest in playing for the Baltimore Stars. Much time, thought and evaluation is dedicated to selecting players and placing them on the team best suited for their skill and ability. Under this new policy, we expect to achieve our paramount goal which is to have all of our tryout participants become Baltimore Stars.

Email us at info@byhc.org if you have questions or concerns.

Warm regards,

The BYHC Board of Directors
